I have a 2011 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI

Over the last week, the car has twice locked the handbrake when I have stopped at traffic lights – ie, I could not depress the release button at the end and lower the handbrake lever.  Luckily, both occasions were on level ground and I only applied the hand brake to the ‘first click’ and so was able to gently pull away to the far side of the junction and stop.  On both occasions, it took around 10 - 15 mins to clear the ‘fault’.  I’ve had the car since new and this is the first time this has happened. 

Has anyone else experienced this or even heard of a locked parking brake?
