Fl focus bulb question.

Featured Replies

So I have a mk3.5 focus st3. Fitted with bi-xenons.

Obviously the xenons do both dipped and main beam.

But in the headlight unit there is also what looks like a h1 bulb ( in the middle )

whats that for? Can’t get them to light up for love nor money.

Are they not daytime running lights? If you put the headlight control to 'O' it should light up,

Or maybe a cornering bulb, so with dipped beam on, turn the wheel full lock one way and see if it lights up

I’ve think I’ve narrowed it down to cornering lights. Gonna have a play in the dark tonight.

I can't speak for the Mk 3.5, but on the Mk 3 bi-Xenon there are 2 bulbs there. One is for cornering, the other is an auxiliary high beam bulb. This is because Xenon lights take a few seconds to warm up, so the auxiliary high beam comes into play to provide instant response when you flash your headlights.

Also it makes the high beam very bright 😊

I am also wondering what this is middle lamp is. I thought the xenons took care of the cornering as they are adaptive?

Confused as the xenons move left and right up and down too

they do a self level check mode when you start the car thats why you see then jumping around. did you put lights on turn wheel left or right and jump out of car to see if corner lights had come on ?

Facelift Xenons are adaptive and will move side to side as well as up and down.  They're pretty smart at adapting to different driving conditions...but also keep breaking and requiring complete new light units at extortionate cost!
