Oil change

Featured Replies

Hi, first time ford owner, so first time poster here.

I've just bought a 2012 (62) Ford Ranger Limited with the 2.2 engine. The engine oil in it is super clean and I've been informed it has been changed every 3000-5000 miles which has obviously kept it clean. I want to keep up with it so I'll aim to change it every 5000 miles or every 6 months but reading into the oil changes for the Rangers I've read that if you leave the oil draining for more than 10 minutes it can lose its prime because of a certain pump that is used? (I'm not a mechanic so only basic knowledge about cars etc) and cause huge engine problems. My question is, does that only count for the 3.2 engine or is it something to weary of on the 2.2 engine aswell?

Any info would be great!

Thanks.

Where have you read that?

I've just recently done a change on my 3.2 and I probably left it way longer than 10 mins (I tend to undo the plug and leave that while I do the air filter etc to let it drain fully) - no major engine problems following that.
