ssharple2001
I’ve got a spare K&N cone filter from my old R53 MINI Cooper S and was wondering if I can just stick it on my Fiesta Metal. Can anyone see a reason why not?I’m just planning to screw it onto the end of the intake hose as a direct replacement for the air box.Normally I’d be worried about potential heat soak but the standard fit K&N just sits free in the bay too and that’s considered ok.I’ve got my autool to keep an eye on AITs too! pragmatix
The reason why not is it wont improve anything.
ssharple2001
The reason why not is it wont improve anything.Really? How come?I was thinking more air = more bang.It certainly perked up my MINI compared to the standard panel filter!

ssharple2001
Isn’t the standard K&N 57i just loose in the engine bay too though?
AndyDC
I've driven classic sports cars for years, and can only say that a standard paper filter with cool air will beat a "performance" filter with warm (engine bay temperature) air every time. The performance filter itself may be able to let more air (by weight) flow through despite the increased temperature, but all the other restrictions in the engine will give a net loss on power. If you can route a cool supply all around the cone (a supply of cool air that is enough for how much the engine gets through) then it should be OK. Some 57i cones are, some have shields. I had a none shielded on before and noticed nothing but noise or a Rover. Since Mountune keep the standard air box and K@N type filter I do the same, stops heat soak, and almost just as much noise.
