Hello guys hope you can help or give me a little advice please.

 A few months ago as i was waiting in busy traffic my car ( a 56 plate focus ) just suddenly started to over rev all on its own for no reason, this lasted for about 5 seconds then returned to normal but since then every now and again the revs will drop and a message of engine system failure will appear and the car runs like in limp mode. To clear this all i have to do is just turn off the ignition then back on and all is fine again.

i have had the car plugged in to check for codes but there are none but in truth this was of a code checker off amazon so it could be wrong and the car is about to reach 100,000 without any real problems so i have been very lucky on that score.

so has anybody here had the same or similar issues and how did you resolve them. its not the problem that bothers me but the when and if it gets worse that does,
