How Can I Confirm which TDCI engine/what bhp is?

Hi Peeps, I'm looking at pulling the trigger on my first S-max and have found one but am confused about which engine is has. It's a 2007 2.0TDCI Titanium that a reg search online says is 140bhp.  When I drove it I thought it felt a lot less 'peppy' than I expected. The dealer said it's a 110bhp because it's a 'DuroTorq' not the 'Hitorq' which is the 140. Who's right and is there some way I can confirm it?

Go to www.etis.ford. put your reg in and see if it shows on there

Or Google the first part of the engine number.

Thanks guys. It is a 143 according to Etis Ford. But surprisingly lacklustre for all the talk of the S-max's sporty nature. And I'm coming from a 1.2 litre Vauxhall!  Either way I've pulled the trigger so I'm officially an S-maxer. I might have to look at chipping it - but that will be another thread...😉

Yeah the 140ps is a bit lame to be honest, the home delivery van i drive daily has double the weight a bit less power and less torque but yet drivers and goes better then our fords with 140ps engine.  The gearing don't rely help much, recommend to match the gear to the speed is 3rd at 30mph 4th for 40mph etc.

Here you go.  😃

I've had several diesels remapped and as long as you are sensible and don't go MAX torque MAX bhp!!!!! and keep within the gearbox torque limits it's a win win.  Better acceleration and better cruising mpg.

What is the recommended max torque and bhp.  Seen some companies offering upto 420nm of torque and 185bhp.
