Fuse keeps blowing

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Newbie on here.  Was after a little help or advice to see if anyone has experienced the same issue.

mk3 escort rs, the fuse for the tape keeps blowing. I believe the fuse in on a circuit that controls the tape, interior light and the rear screen, as well as possibly more interior stuff.  I’ve replaced the fuse but it pops instantly.  Disconnected the tape and the interior light connector but still blows soon as another fuse Is put in. Bit baffled as to what else to check.

Anyone have any ideas or has the same issue.

Thanks.

Sid

Sid,Have you got a tester the type that has a crocodile clip one side and a probe the other? What I've done in the past is put the tester across both sides of the fuse holder,as you have a straight short it will illuminate. Then disconnect each item listed against the fuse until the light goes out. This should reveal which circuit the fault is on.If this doesn't work,it could be down to wiring.Have you been doing any work on the car, welding for instance?  What year is the car?

I haven’t got a tester but I’ll get hold of one. I’ll try that and see how far I get with. Do you know what else is in the circuit that this fuse is for, I know it’s the tape, interior light and also the rear heated screen I believe. What else is it responsible for?! The cars a C reg series 1. Had some work done on the car recently however this issue was before the car went in.

Cheers

I can't find a wiring diagram for your car at the moment.I'm not sure the rear heated screen would be on the same fuse as the interior light, but I may be wrong. It is likely that other items on this fuse would be a clock and a cigar lighter,if fitted. The latter may be the culprit.Let us know if you find anything.
