The weird thing is though... ford rangers in the UK appear to have the climate screen properly with the LHD:RHD fixed obviously

Yeah, same thing I saw on a 2016(66) Mondeo. Climate screen working fine (Sync 3.0).

My assumption is that there are 2 completely different versions of the software, and it can't be swapped over with a variable change.  So the versions we keep 'aquiring' are always North American, and thus fixed to LHD

So. I have a random question.

I did the update to the latest version from Cyanlabs website. Amazing. Works well.

Thing is, I wasnt paying attention and I downloaded the "NA" package. North American maps!

How do I get the EU maps from here? Should I :

1. use the downgrade tool.
2. then the format tool.
3. then the EU maps.

or? I don't wanna break anything! 😄

you probably already sorted this, but yes that will work.

i don't tend to check the many forums discussing this guide that much, discord and fb would be quickest.

my understanding is that the hardware on the focus isn't reversible but on other cars it is.

is this a bug that means the temp display / adjustment shows on the wrong side of the car (due to a tiny programming glitch no one fed back to Ford) and thus no one resolved ?

if so when you say hardware, do you mean you can't unplug a temp sensor (or similar) and switch sides manually?....

if that's the case isn't is more important that the right escalation procedures are followed, so it gets on Ford list of fixes for them to get wrong yet again in some elusive update that might turn up in 2 years time?  Is this exclusively post non dealer updating, or a known glitch on cars coming out of the showroom?

It's not a bug because the Ford focus in the UK never had climate control on sync enabled, they clearly knew it didn't work and rather than coding a fix to swap the 2 sections they just disabled it on our cars.

My Sync 3.3 car doesn't have climate enabled as a controllable menu, but it does have the temperature shown in the top bar for each side, which is the correct way round. So there must be some config somewhere which defines this.

If you are using 3.3/3.4 on a 3.0 module though, then unless you flashed the firmware, there are parts of the full config which will be missing.

Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Malta (I think), Unlikely (but not impossible, Japan, India)

Hi,

I upgraded my sync 2 system to sync 3 last year in my 2016 Focus RS and am currently  on 3.4 19200, if I want to update to 20021 do I have to use the format tool on 1st USB before loading update on 2nd USB, or will it update by just putting the 2nd USB in?

Keep up the good work guys.

Cheers,

Jon

I believe the link on the first post includes links for in place upgrades. You shouldn’t need to reformat.

Filled in the form. No problems so far with 3.4.19101.

When I upgraded from Sync2 to Sync3 I didn’t put a new gps antenna under the dashboard. I bought a roof mounted  aerial from a newer focus with gps antenna built in and ran an extension cable to the APIM. Wouldn’t think that would make any difference other than give a stronger satellite signal.

I'm thinking about doing this too, could you give any details on the process?

I'm pretty sure this is the part number for the facelift aerial with the additional fakra connector over the standard Sync 2 version.  "JM5T-19G461-CA"  Can you confirm this is the one you have?

Also, any tips on how you removed the headlining to get at the base of the aerial and where you routed the extension aerial cable?  I'm thinking along the headlining and down the A pillar into the dash but not sure if it will rattle about?

Hi all, my first post!

i updated my Sync 3.0 to 3.4 this evening using the tutorial and files on cyanlabs. All working great and as expected, but I have a question on radio icons.

do I need a forscan to enable these or can I do it through the UI somewhere? I’ve had a look through the 16 pages on here and I’m none the wise I’m afraid.

thanks

It's already being installed on new cars built since around October last year.

No idea when or if Ford will release OTA though, they may not and just carry on with 3.3 on those cars built with it.

The 3.3 software hasn't been updated in over a year though, so I'm crossing fingers they'll just move us to 3.4.

Sync 3.4 will never be a option with people who are on  3.0  or 3.3 its only for the 2020 build cars 😞

Source?

While I agree for 3.0, Ford haven’t released a single update to 3.3 for over a year, while they are still maintaining 3.0 with updates.

I recently contacted Ford CRC again to find out when updates are going to be released officially and after much tooing and froing and asking me stupid questions they escalated my enquiry and eventually came back saying that an update is due to be released but because of current situation they can't give a date.

Hi Niall,

The aerial I bought had the part number JM5T-19G461-DB, £60 from eBay.

I got my local independent garage to do the fitting as I wasn't keen on taking the headlining down either. They said it wasn't too bad a job and the only bit they were worried about was setting the curtain airbags off in the pillars. They routed the cable as you thought and it doesn't cause any new rattles as far as I can tell but they were pretty generous with the cable ties when they fitted it.

Thanks @colinmcg71 that is really helpful.

I'd forgotten about the side airbags! Might be best to get a specialist to quote me on it.

manufacturers are never keen to improve a model they already sold... their raison d'etre is to sell cars, nothing else

they have to pretend to resolve safety and big reliability issues, (and these days play lip service to security issues - although cars being stolen is a great way to improve the point in my first sentence above).  Improvements are never a planned part of the picture for car's already sold...

one reason you've not seen any updates on 3.3 will be because the list of hideous security flaws will be smaller and more minor than the gaping holes in earlier cars...   very slowly they are less bad but still 9 years off the pace.  And frankly it generates no money for them and the week they release it, there'll be two new vulnerabilities that are far worse.  They probably have a release cycle that says 10 major and 20 minor security flaws, put the apprentice coder on it for 3 weeks - lets hope it turns on after he's messed it up....

Thanks for the speculation. I asked for a source.
