Tony673
Hi guys, I'm driving my first diesel car (mk3 Mondeo) and when I bought it the oil was black. I passed the car to my regular mechanic to give it a service and he told me that this black oil was normal with diesels. Two weeks after this service the oil is black again, so is this normal or should I be looking a a complete flush? In all other respects the car is in excellent condition. Current mileage 98,000. Frembrit
It's normal for a Diesel.
Tony673
Thanks mate. This being my first diesel car I wasn't sure.
Guy Heaton
It is because diesel oil is designed to hold the soot particles in suspension, which protects the engine.
nicam49
Could be the previous owner(s) didn't change the oil often enough... should be 12k miles, but most owners on Talkford profess to changing it and the filter, more often than that. But yes, it does seem to get black quickly anyway.
