MK2 creaking after work done

Featured Replies

I have recently had both wishbones, ball joints, both outer track rod ends, right front coil spring changed and exhaust hangers rewelded, but now there is an almighty creaking when turning slowly and a rattle has started after a few days since these were done. The rattle sounds like it is from the front right. Without sounding too stupid, how can I ensure that the bolts are fully tight, is it best to have the car fully down on the road and squeeze underneath using the cars weight to ensure everything is sat right? And, once these are done up, there isn't such a thing as needing to retighten after "settling" down is there. Thanks all

Was it done at a garage?  If so, just take it back and ask them to double check on a ramp...

Was the strut top mount and/or bearing replaced along with the spring?  If not, they may have failed since being disturbed which would explain your slow speed creak.

Wishbone front bolts should be finally tightened when under load.  If not, the front bush will be always under strain and wear out quickly.  The only way you can check all bolts are tight is by putting a spanner/socket on them and seeing if there's any give...  It's recommended to check wheel bolts a few days after they've been off, but suspension bolts shouldn't need retightening really.
