Am I correct that all st-line x come with a modem as standard? 

I’ve had my 69 plate just over a week and looking to get that set up if possible ?

 

 

 

That's right, but Ford give you 3 months or 3gb of free data to use, outside of that you've got to buy your own. You set it up through the Ford Pass app on your mobile

I’m not in the car enough to justify £100, use my data I guess..

Just a note, you probably already know but this 3gb is for the car to be a hotspot.  

It's nothing to do with the live traffic or connected features.

Is that Ford Navigation you’re talking about? 

I assume Auto Android uses data if not connected to the modem? 

Connected features?..Bluetooth? 

 

Android auto would use your phone data I'd assume.  But sync3ive traffic etc is not part of that 3gb. That 3gb is for you to use the car as a WiFi hotspot.

 

The dealer should have sorted the connected features, live traffic, telemetry etc at handover.

I can’t find the live traffic option. The dealer would have set it up I’m sure. I take it it’s traffic updates on Ford Navigation? 

I’d been using google maps cause I’m a bit more used to it but the built in navigation is very good I’ve realised.

Honest John has it averaging at 32.9mpg

im getting 29mpg

I'm Android.  OnePlus.

I'm getting 32mpg, 3000 miles in.

On my mk4 125ps petrol estate (titanium x - just turned 7,000 miles on the clock) I'm averaging about 35mpg which is a little less than I was getting on my previous car (SEAT Exeo 2.0 143 TDI diesel - average about 39mpg) but better than my car before that (Toyota Avensis 2.0 D4 VVT-i GDI petrol - average 29mpg).

Will the car connect to a mobile phone hotspot ?  In my Mk3.5 the car wifi connects to my phone hotspot, so it just  uses data  on phone as a tethered device.

You only have to pay for the hotspot, it has it's own cellular modem, what would be the advantage of it tethering with your phone?

Am I right in saying the built in Navigation is GPS and has nothing to do with Internet?

and the modem in the boot is really just to save using data on our phones?

The sat nav uses pre-loaded maps.

The modem allows remote connectivity features, telemetry, traffic data to support the sat nav and has the option of paying to provide a wifi hotspot.

So my point was that the car has it's own modem, there is no point it connecting through your phone to access the interent, when it can do it itself.

I think that means the mk3.5 doesn’t have WiFi but u can use a phone as a dongle 🤔

also, my Ford Navigation has shops near me listed that closed a lot of years ago! The cars brand new! 

The maps can’t work without GPS? Traffic alerts also?

The latest maps for Sync 3 are currently F8, so 2018.

Yes even if you don't pay for the Wifi hotspot, it will use the modem for traffic update, remote connectivity to fordpass app and also for the SOS button and emergency assistance.

Ford UK currently say that after 2 yrs, you will have to pay for traffic and remote connectivity, but then Ford USA have just announced they are scrapping the fees and keeping that stuff free for the life of the car, so I'd expect Europe to follow suit by the time the car is 2yrs old.

Theoretically you can go to the Here Maps editor site and delete/add/move those shops, not sue if it actually works as my 2019 Sync3 is according to ford"up-to-date" on maps F7

First one I noticed was a bakery 1/2 mile from my house, closed a decade ago!

Using the phone doesn't require an additional sim card or cost anything more if used within your data allowance.

My phone as unlimited data, so no point paying for an extra sim as I always have the phone with me. The Mk3.5 doesn't have integrated mobile.

You don't pay for the modem in the car either if you don't use the hotspot, which you won't if you use your phone's data connection.

 

All I'm saying there is literally no point having the option for the car to use your phone's data connection, it has its own.

Is mobile airtime free for life in the car hotspot ? What network does it use, on what tariff ? If it's free and never expires even if you don't use it, then I agree.

I use my phone as a car hot spot so the kids/missus etc can use their tablets for music, video etc. Works a treat, but eats a lot of data on longer journeys. Good news is it doesn't cost me anymore, as it's included in my £15 pm phone plan. If its free to do this using the car mobile connection that great, if not it "may" be cheaper to use the phone as a hotspot depending on how much data is used and the phone airtime cost.

It uses Vodafone afaik, you never pay for the actual SIM or data connection only the features that run on it.

My point is that you can use your phone as the hotspot, no point connecting the phone to the car for it to use the data connection. It doesn't need it.
