DAB+ (UK) on 2011 Ford Focus Titanium Sony radio

Featured Replies

Hi

I listen to Radio X - they've switched from standard DAB to DAB+ recently.

I rescanned the radio and picked up Radio X, and saved it into the preset.  However, whilst it worked  - I tuned out and went to another preset (Magic) and then went back to Radio X and all I got was a 'No Reception' message.  It seems to do this randomly as another radio station (Heart 90's) seems to work and then disappear randomly.

Any ideas on what is going on here?  My radio can obviously pick up DAB+, but is it getting confused with other DAB stations?

I have the Sony radio as shown in this picture: Picture

Thanks

Steve

I doubt the mk 2 cars tuner does DAB +, yours's might as its a mk3 and totally different,  did you ensure its running any firmware updates you can load yourself ?

is yours's sync 1 or sync 1.1 as updates I have given info here is for 1.1 ?

https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/resources-and-support/sync-bluetooth/ford-sync-1-1-help (if you have 1.0 then arrow left gives the page for sync 1 and down the pag is a blue box you click to get to the downloads

and when you can't install 1.1 (coz the files ford give you are corrupt) follow these to fix the downloaded stuff yourself

radio x was suppose to die 25 Oct on just DAB

The original version of DAB used the MP2 audio codec. An upgraded version of the system was released in February 2007, called DAB+, which uses the modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) based HE-AAC v2 (AAC+) audio codec. DAB is not forward compatible with DAB+, which means that DAB-only receivers are not able to receive DAB+ broadcasts.[4] However, broadcasters can mix DAB and DAB+ programs inside the same transmission and so make a progressive transition to DAB+. DAB+ is approximately twice as efficient as DAB, and more robust.

In spectrum management, the bands that are allocated for public DAB services, are abbreviated with T-DAB, where the "T" stands for terrestrial.

As of 2018, 41 countries are running DAB services.[5] The majority of these services are using DAB+, with only Ireland, UK, New Zealand, Romania and Brunei still using a significant number of DAB services

This radio DOES support DAB+ but it has another problem - it can only detect the first x number of services on a multiplex.  This used to only happen on the SDL multiplex but I’m guessing as services have been added it’s affecting D1 as well.

there is no proper solution other than flicking between D1 and any other multiplex, and back again, and hoping it randomly detects the service you require. Then save it as a preset if not already done.  Fastest way to switch is via 2 preset buttons.

when you switch between multiplexes make sure you wait for the station to work before switching back, and wait a second or 2 on radio x (or the service you want) to see whether it’s going to work.

it seems completely random when the radio decides to pick up different services, but I had better luck in lower signal areas (might have been in my head)

To confirm you have the same issue as me - you have the same problem with Scala Radio missing from SDL National right? That’s not even DAB+ but also disappears.
