Chugging 2008 1.6 Focus Ztec

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a 2008 Focus 1.6 Ztec and I'm just looking for some advice.

*BTW, I haven't a clue about cars(!), have never dabbled with them myself and have always taken them to garages if anything (anything) goes wrong with them. Sorry?

My Focus has started to chug every now-and-again when I've changed gear and I'm accelerating. Thing is, I have taken the car to two different garages who both say they can see nothing wrong with the engine. The last garage that the car was in said that I should try running the cars current fuel down and try filling the car with Shell petrol (more expensive than the Tescos petrol I put in at the moment). Also, the car doesn't feel as nimble as it once did, feels slower and more lethargic - like driving a tank. Could it just be that the car is so old, it's just showing signs of age?

Do you think there really is nothing more that can be done? I'm quite fond of my little Focus, I don't want to be looking around for a new car just yet...

Any advice is welcomed.

Cheers,

GingerOverlord

I’m thinking coil pack is on its way out or possibly speed sensor?

Yeah I’d go with spark plugs, coil pack or leads. I had this on my 2006 1.6, and it was sorted by some new spark plugs. Mine would do it when accelerating from low down in any gear.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies, much appriciated.

I forgot to mention (sorry), when I took the car to the garage earlier this year, the spark plugs were changed. This made a slight difference but the chugging was still apparent.

Getting the coil pack changed, is this a big/expensive job?

Cheers,

GingerOverlord

I got a coil pack from a car breaker when My sons played up  for £10. Lots on EBay usually.Ony 4 screws need removing but take photo of plug Leeds first as they need removal on the coil.
