Mk4 Auto Hold with an automatic gearbox

Featured Replies

What is the purpose/advantage of using Auto Hold?

I understand it’s good in the manual.

i can’t figure out why it’s even in the automatic.

Perhaps you need to turn off Auto Stop Start to get the best from it ?

Turns out it’s kinda handy

Not to have on all the time. if I’m in not moving traffic if I turn it on I can take foot off the brake, hand brake comes on , stop/start waits for the accelerator to be pressed to restart.

how does the manual auto hold work?

It's not the hand(parking )brake coming on its the foot brakes being held on by the ABS pump . On the manual with or without stop start activated brakes hold on until you accelerate in gear . Ie its works  like hill start but on the flat as well.

Auto hold is selectable using the button behind the EPB lever switch. Hill hold is something completely different and is not related to SYNC.
My 2019 Ford Focus, auto hold intermittently turns itself off (the LED extinguishes) which is frustrating and a safety related issue. It has done this since the dealer updated the ABS module with new SW in March 19. Despite the vehicle going back to the dealer multiple times, Ford have no resolution and are ignoring the issue.

Do you happen to know if this puts the brake lights on?

I ask because I find when sitting behind drivers who hold their vehicles on the footbrake that the brake lights, especially high-level LED types, are extremely uncomfortable for my eyes, especially at night. I have, on occasion, resorted to using my sunvisor to block the high-level light.

Yes of course they are because it's the foot brakes that are holding the vehicle stationary.

I use it all the time, would it be better option to constantly place the car in N and apply the handbrake Everytime you stop?
