Engine malfunction

Featured Replies

Wondering if anyone can shed any light as to why my 2013 Focus 1.6 ecoboost has suddenly appeared to have an electrical issue. When I press the start button the ignition comes on and the main beam comes on also, this is without the lights switch actually turned on. Then I'm getting 'engine malfunction' 'power steering assist malfunction ', and the car won't start. The main lights switch isn't turning any lights on, not even the fog lights. The blower for the heating isn't working either. Now when I pull the lever for the high beam it makes a bleeping noise and the lights stay On, without the ignition even being on which is mad. I've Checked the fuses and everything looks ok. Thing is, the car was working perfectly yesterday. I'm going mad

Best thing to do if this isn't a known problem, is to get an ELM cable (Google tunnelrat, about £20) and a copy of Forscan (free). If you don't have access to a laptop, there are Android and iOS versions of diagnostic cables which use Bluetooth.

Clear all the error codes and then see what persists.

Thanks for the advice Phil, I remembered I still have warranty on the car so hopefully they'll fix it

Think you lost our newbie at, 'get an ELM cable...' LOL

Ah yeah sorry, I was stuck in "used to messing about with this sort of stuff" mode!

Sorry OP!

If you still have trouble, or the garage won't or can't fix it, post back and folk here will try and sort you out!

Not at all, knew what you meant. Would a Bluetooth 327 adapter and Forscan be ok? To be honest, everyone keeps telling me to double check the battery voltage. Is it true that if it falls below the 12.6 it can have a knock on effect with electrical components ie non start, horn inop etc
