Near side sidelights front and rear mainly off but sometimes on when switched on for no apparent reason. No interior warning when off

    i think he is saying that when the sidelight switch is on, the sidelights often don't come on.  

    could be switch, fuses, connectors on the BCM/body control module.

    Do the speedo/ heating control illumination lights go on and off properly with the switch? if they come on and off OK and the sidelights don't then I am thinking that rules out the switch.

    I would also suggest it's not the fuse either if they 'sometimes' work. A fuse either works or doesn't...
