Which coolant for my Ecoboost?

Featured Replies

I’ve tried to get some coolant today to tip my eco boost engine up. It’s the 1.0 on a 15 plate.

It’s slightly low, just below the minimum line. There doesn’t appear to be a leak and it’s taken a while to drop this far.

I’ve had a look online and many sites are advising varying coolants.

Anyone able to advise which to get?

And am I ok topping up rather than emptying and refilling? I seem to recall something about not mixing coolant but it’s been years since I’ve done this sort of thing.

If you're only topping it up a little, you'll be fine just adding some de-ionised water. It wont affect the coolant to water ratio enough to make a difference in reality.

Thanks.

With the issues involved with eco boosts I was worried about getting it wrong and seeing my engine die.

The problems with the EcoBoost engines were a sudden loss of all its coolant causing it to overheat etc. I'd stick with de-ioned water though to help prevent corrosion long term.

Long term?  It's a 1.0EB! :whistling:

I agree though, it's such a small amount you can just put water in.  Or get a cheap 1 litre bottle of the ready mixed pink stuff from Halfords or ECP.  In theory most modern coolants can be mixed but I've seen the mess when they do react and produce sludge throughout the system, it's not worth the hassle tbh.
