What MK2.5 radio fascia did I just buy?

Featured Replies

I just bought this radio fascia off eBay because I think it will look better than my DIY carbon wrapped one that's a bit wrinkly, but I'm not sure what spec Focus it's off?

I can't find anything about this particular part, it's not a standard silver or matte black one, and it's definitely not one of the official carbon ones off a RS. Anyone know?

Focus Titanium? I know they can have the funky looking surrounds.

Yes, that looks like the one on the 2010 Focus Mk 2.5 Titanium I had.

Yeah that's a 'grey carbon' Titanium surround.

They weren't particularly rare a few years ago but might be more so now.

So it's off a Titanium then, that seems to make sense. I've seen wood trimmed Titaniums unless that was aftermarket.

Either way I'm happy with it, I almost bought a plain matte black one for £20 with £9 postage before I stumbled across this one with the controls included for £30 free postage.

The wood trim is almost certainly aftermarket, only the non-facelift Ghia’s has genuine fake plastic wood.

There wasn't a Titanium X Mk2.5.  Heated seats, xenons, tints, cruise and powerfold were all options on the Titanium so it was hard to find a used one with every option I wanted.  Climate control was also never standard, as you can see from the conventional manual temp dials there.  The standard Titanium wasn't all that well specced tbh, but then neither was the Mk5 Golf Match it was rivalling!

I've never seen a wood trimmed Titanium myself.  The old Ghia's had it on the prefacelift, but Titanium was meant to 'lift' the old man image that Ghia created so they came with more tech and modern interior touches.  Did you also get the cubby/ashtray cover and gearstick surround as that matched the set too.

I've never liked the interior of our Mk2.5 as much as our previous Mk1.5 Ghia, but I am an old man . . .

Maybe it was a Ghia that I saw, forgot all about them.

All I've got is that in the picture, maybe I'll buy the rest if I see them. The cubby cover dosen't look too hard to change but the bigger bit below it looks a bit harder.

A quick look on eBay and theres a matching cubby for £10 but with £10 postage. I know that probably isn't bad all things considered but I'm used to my Amazon Prime...

Looks like the design team got it right then!

I don't mind a bit of faux wood trim, but the wonky vents and chaotic dash layout put me off ever buying a mk1:laugh:

That takes me back! Didn't have leather on mine, but 6 speed being a 2.0tdci. Didn't go a bundle on the heater controls though, I expected it to have climate going from  Fiesta Titanium which did.

At one point they offered both Titanium and Ghia - a salesman told me that Titanium was meant to be "technical" and "cool", a Ghia more traditional. Don't know what "Vignale" is all about though!

Tbh when I was looking, my main criteria was £30 tax (so had to be 1.6TDCI) with climate and cruise...and I ended up buying one without either of those!!  I bought it knowing I could retrofit cruise (which I did within a month!) and hoping I'd get used to the lack of climate...which I never did...

It was a bit of an impulse buy really, it had so many other options and was local I didn't want to miss it...  Obviously had the full leathers (heated and electronic on drivers) plus rear privacy glass, front heat shielded windscreen, chrome trim on the tailgate, power fold mirrors, xenon headlights and LED rears, Bluetooth, voice control, etc...

I'm still stuck with manual temp dials in the Golf now as well...it's a top spec Match with cruise, f&r optical parking sensors, Bluetooth, auto wipers and lights, stop start, touch screen audio with DAB etc etc all as standard...but those archaic temp dials!?  Not even Climatic, let alone Climatronic...easily the worst part of the car for me lol.  Next car HAS to have climate!  Ironic really that almost all of the 306s I had from '99 to '01 had semi-auto climate, yet the modern stuff hasn't even had that.

Of course, the Mk3 Titanium got climate as standard...but that was useless as the AC didn't work!  🤦‍♂️  And also had Climatronic on one of the Mk4 Golfs...again with inop air con!  Sadly the only car I've had with proper climate control and working AC was the 2006 Vectra...

Yep, prefacelift Titaniums were also offered in 3dr unlike facelift versions!

Vignale has to be aimed at the older generation with that price tag!  Although having said that, I was surprised to see the flashy tailpipes on the Mk4 Vignale, seemed a bit brash for a luxury model!  As I've said before, I'm far more about spec that looks or engine really...Vignale would definitely be my choice, but I'm not the average 20 something male buyer...

May be, but their aim is missing the target in my case!

I guess I'm not the average 60 something male buyer either.............😀

I’m not too fussed with climate control in all honesty, was crap in the Kia we had in Portugal. No matter what temp we had it at, it was just ‘cold’ until it went above 21 then it was warm. The Climatic on my mates Polo is naff too, probably broken though in all honesty.

Yeah I find the facelifted interior of the mk2 is nicer than the awful interior on the mk3/mk3.5, ie no protruding dash that takes up nearly half the the interior space of the car. The mk2.5 has just a nicer interior in my opinion in all comparable specs.

Agreed. My mate has a Mk3.5 ST-3, it has barely any legroom and especially with the Recaros feels very cramped. The Mk4 is much better but I still don't think the comfort is as good as the Mk2.5, the rear seats especially feel like they have hardly any padding compared to my car.

The two things I miss from my old mk2.5 Focus is interior room and a decent sized boot.

The part leather seats I got out of a pre-facelift MK2 (Titanium) and fitted to the wife's MK2.5 Zetec are REALLY comfy compared to the crappy cloth seats that it came with, although you do sit noticeably higher up in the car which feels a little bit odd.

How do I remove the lower control panel? I've got the Torx screws out and got the panel out loose but it's being held back by the wires or something so I can't get behind it to undo the wiring.

Do you mean the heater controls (the 3 dials) or the bit below it for the heated screens?
