Charging System Fault MK4

Featured Replies

I collected my new 1.0 Ecoboost Vignale on 4th October and the Charging System Fault warning came up on the Dash the following day I spoke to my local Ford Centre and they said it was probably a faulty battery and booked the car in to be checked over (could not get in for 2 weeks) they had it for 2 days car returned working OK on 18th Oct but today 13th November warning back again.

Has anyone else experienced Charging System Fault on a Mk4 Focus.

mate at work has lots of lights come on, (as do many here...) last check showed there were 21 software updates waiting to go in his car built may 2019 (aside for the 4 hifi ones he's applied himself - that have resolved nothing)

I would hope the garage you went to were big enough and well enough equipped they applied all possible updates to your before handing it back

however a few things need to happen there...

1) they gave a ***** (they won't have)

2) they had the kit (who knows they won't tell you)

3) the dealer kit was running its latest version with all the just released software to apply (probably not )

4) the tech knew what he was doing (probably not)

5) they had the time and inclination to apply all updates (almost certainly wouldn't have bothered, prob did the main one that usually plays up and updated with a version that 3 iterations out of date and had a tea)

I'd be keen to know if it was fully updated, then go with physical fault issues if ALL software has been applied successfully

Are all these issues arising because Ford planned a lot of automatic updates thru our modems and none of them are getting thru ?

no - only tesla do this.... when plugged in and fully charged (with a battery able to do 140mph and 300 miles ) it does updates,

the amount of battery power required is massive and wont be about for years on non electric car's if ever...

and software is to resolve as yet unknown bugs / security or improve features, they aren't supposed to come out needing software updates

Is there not an automatic updates button on the sync3 ?

if the hifi links via a tethered phone with the engine running and flashes a small patch on the stereo  …. its not exactly reprogramming the engine management

I checked with guy at work, wireless only for updating the stereo, he says you are supposed to be able to connect when home to your router and get an update.  he has never been able to get this to work and all the car's he's heard about have scrambled its brains and needs the USB stick method to revive
