Mk2.5 main beam too high

Featured Replies

Following a day of driving through inadvisably deep water I managed to get some moisture in my passenger side headlamp, which I ended up sorting by removing the lamp, all the bulbs and drying off in the airing cupboard before refitting it.

While replacing the lamp I found that the driver's side lamp had a spider's web in it, so I removed the lamp, took out the bulbs, cleaned out the web and refitted the whole thing

Now, for some reason, it feels like my main beam bulbs are both set a little too high compared to the dips. Its more than possible I've not replaced things quite correctly.

Can someone confirm the correct way to install the main beam bulbs? I got the dips the right way up on the second go, and as far as i can tell I've got the mains in right

three things to check (double check the last point first)

bulbs fitted correctly ?

lamp units refitted to the car correctly, shut lines should look good / even all round and very smug to the bumper, and it clips in without a fight and the one screw should just line up?

on the interior light switch there's a level sensor on some, 1 is normal I think...   maybe adjusters wrong / switch in wrong setting ?

Aim switch is fine

The units themselves line up fine

I'll take another look at the main beam bulbs to make sure they're correctly placed

I popped the lamps out yesterday morning and checked the main beam bulbs were correctly seated. It seems I'd managed somehow to badly seat both bulbs so they pointed high, but both in the same way. Careful re-seating and making sure the connector plug was pushed fully home sorted it, and also checking the aim against the garage door helped!

at least its sorted now....

got to be one of the easiest cars to remove the light units

You have to make sure you first place the bulb into the headlamp hole with the tab at the top then push the connector onto it. If you don't do it that way you end up was all sorts of beams and the bulbs pop alot.

That's definitely the case for the H7 dips (with the indexing tab), the H1s have two dimples for locating them which don't seem as effective

IIRC Skoda Octavia ones are even easier, as you don't need a screwdirver to remove the securing bolt.
