Ecu Remapping Petrol Engine

Is it possible and /or advisable to have a 1.8 Zetec petrol engine remapped? I'm interested in better torque and fuel consumption, not raw power. Would it invalidate the manufacturers warranty? (Car is 18 months old.) Would affect or invalidate insurance?

I think, depending on who does the remapping, they'll give their own warranty.

It would affect your insurance, you'll have to advise them of any modifications and they would inform you of any changes to your premium. If you don't declare it, it would render your policy void. i.e you would not be insured!!
