Slightly clutch slip in 3rd only?

Featured Replies

I've had a 2004 Focus MK1 for a few months, only bought as a cheap runaround but has been fine as a daily commuter and motorway runner. It's always had 'clutch whoop' when cold but this goes when warmed up and done approx 3K in it with no problems.

Today it's now started to develop a slight slip, but specifically only in 3rd gear when accelerating from lower revs and it will recover when further up the rev range. There's a squeal with the slip.

It doesn't do it in any other gear - it'll pull away up steep hills confidently and you can go from 1st to 5th and plant your foot on the floor and the clutch will hold on just fine. No characteristic 'knackered clutch' burning smell either.

Any chance of it being anything else other than the clutch going?
