Reverse Light Switch Common Problem?

Featured Replies

Literally just got home from buying a 2009 Focus Zetec S. Lovely car, bought from a dealer, was supposed to be safety checks but someone almost drove into us as we were reversing into the drive.

No reverse light!

Checked the bulb and thats fine, same fuse as electric mirrors and mirrors work so can assume fuse ok so that leaves the switch, is this a common problem?

Other than that lovely car :)

Yep, I had the same issue, bought from a dealer with no reverse light!

That was back in 2014, only 46k miles and 6 years old so I'd say yours has done well if it's original!

Mine went on my Mk 2 at about 7 years old as well - you don't realise you'll miss it until you do!  Replacement was easy to fit and has lasted until now.

Thanks for the replies, somehow I didn't get notification.

I have a problem though, I bought a reverse switch which says it Fits the Focus 2, but for some reason it won't fit mine, the thread on the new part is too small !

Would anyone know the part number for the reverse switch for a 2009 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI Zetec S?

The one I bought was longer than the original so I had to screw it back a few turns to stop it jamming in the gearbox when selecting reverse.  It might be that your original is the long version and you bought the shorter on to replace it?  See this thread from a while back for details

Thanks for the reply. Turns out the part I ordered is correct but for a different gearbox used on the Ford. So have now order the correct one.

Mine had a long thread but the thread is also thinner, its an M14. The correct size is M16. Arrived today and looks the same so will change tonight and hopefully have better luck
