2012 focus bulb upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi all, I am looking to upgrade the bulbs on my new 2012 focus to a whiter looking light, this is my first experience of canbus and from what I have found I need error free bulbs if I go with led's. Apparently in time the led's will give trouble, so I am looking for a halogen white, side, dim, and fog light bulbs any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks

You can put LEDs in the front fogs without problems but get some decent quality ones which have heat dissipation. In the clusters you might get away with LED sidelights but for the dipped and main beams, retrofitted LEDs are basically illegal. The whitest you can go which are road legal will be something like Philips WhiteVision bulbs. I have these in my car and they look ok, but they don't match my DRLs and LED fogs.

Another user in Ireland used to to have Osram HyperBlues in his which matched his DRLs (same as mine) a lot better, but I'm not sure if you'd get away with them over here.

Thanks for the info Phil, your Focus looks amazing. I had night-eye led's in my mk2 a pure white light with no probs,I tried the dipped beam night-eyes in the mk3 and got an error so I removed them. Do you know if the fogs can be reached by removing the triangular grills, also looking for horizontal drl's with no luck.

They should be, I never thought of accessing that way.

Just to let you know that when you change your foglights to white LEDs, you render them pretty useless as 'fog' lights, but they do look nice! The wavelength of LED emission simply bounce back off fog, whereas the old fashioned bulb actually cuts through fog... It's not part of an MOT test so the car will still be 'legal', but it's your choice.
