Could someone help please ?

Featured Replies

Hi there. Would like to ask if anyone  can help me please.. Im having few issues with my focus 57 plate estate. It's a 1.8 tdci Zetec climate ...

First of all I'm trying to fix fuel pump . It does leak a bit while driving. When it's stop's it's okay . No leaking at all . I already spend more then £300 for water hoses coz been told in garage that the diesel it's killing rubber. So couple of time water just disappeared from system. I have replaced the water hose for new one (£76.50 from ford shop) . I can't afford to buy new pump + cambelt kit + water pump ( someone told me I'll need to replace all of it, not sure) because all income it's going for bills and living expenses. Working in hotel as a chef and I need car daily coz I'm traveling to work. Christmas nearly here and another baby on way. Basically I'm not that rich to get new parts and pay for fitting in garage. Trying to fix small things by myself so I could save little bit more £ for future. If anyone can help me what could be a issue at High pressure fuel pump (Siemens VDO K10_01) I'll appreciate it. I did change two rubber rings seals already but it's still leaks. I drive 50miles+/- 5 in town  = 1 quarter of tank it's gone  . Maybe just a bolt or screw it's loose or some stupid seal  that I can't see . Please help ..

Second issue that I have it's lighter socket delay ( time to shut off ) . It seems to me like something it's not right. Coz I left the dash cam plugged in overnight and in morning battery was dead. I have brand new battery and alternator aswell . All wiring good . Been checked ( another £45 for check) . Could be something really easy to fix but I have no idea what could be and where.

Third issue it's that the tyre on passenger side at front it's looks like lollipop now . And front driver side tyre it's still new ( around 7k miles of daily driving). Could be just tracking ???

And another issue it's the big cloud of smoke +2.5k revs usually uphill . Been told that dpf it is in  really bad condition and need to be cleaned. So I spend  fairly £120 for dpf cleaning and was good for week. Then started smoking again and been told from same mechanic in garage that the dpf its in really bad condition and it have to be replaced . Is it a joke ? That guy just trying to make money ? Am I idiot?

Thanks to all of you for help. Hope I'll get some good advice here.

Thanks again

Hi Adam, on the pre-facelift MK2 Focus the power point is at the bottom of the centre console and is ALWAYS live.  It's not switched i.e. turned on and off by the ignition, this is why the dashcam being plugged in overnight flattened your car's battery.  You need the dash cam to piggyback from a different fuse i.e. one that is switched rather than being on all of the time.

Regarding your DPF question, the 1.8 TDCi was NEVER fitted with a DPF from the factory so you can rule out any DPF problems.  If you've been to a garage and they said the DPF needed cleaning then (sadly) they're "having your pants down" and stealing your money.

As per Damian, my belief is that 1.8tdci never had dpf on them.

Comfirmation x3 from me.
I had an 07 1.8 diesel and definitely no DPF.

Would you tell us first what is the car engine, 1.6 tdci or 1.8 tdci? Than kW or bhp values, this would help us.

For a start, diesel does not kill rubber. Second, lighter socket is always under voltage so do not leave anything plugged in over night. Increased fuel consumption may be due to the clogged air filter and/or fuel filter, mostly DIY jobs. As last, Focus 2 and 2.5; with 1.8tdci engine have no DPF, only cat. So reconsider finding a new garage. Cam belts and other need to be replaced every 10yrs or 100 000 miles. So for a start, try replacing engine oil w filter, air and fuel filters. Than watch this space, too much knowledge on Focus issues!!!

i have a 2009 mk 2 ford focus  hatchback 1.8tdci 115bhp and they 100%do not have a dpf fitted i think the 1.6 tdci it has a dpf fitted that was why i went for a 1.8tdci you see as i had problems with a peugeot 308 1.6 diesel dpf it cost me 250.00 to get it cleaned out . i soon got shut of that car .

I believe some 1.6tdci have dpf and some don't. I think it it is the 90bhp version it does not and if it is about 115bhp it does. I am kind of 80% certain, not 100% certain. But I still believe no 1.8tdci have dpf. I hope he does know what engine it is.  1.8tdci has exhaust at rear of engine, 1.6tdci has exhaust on front of engine, that's probably the best way for visual check.

Another easy way to tell them apart is the 1.8 TDCI (the engine I've got) sounds like 30 year tractor at idle! 🤣

The 1.8 TDCI is a more basic engine but far more robust than the 1.6.
As long as you kept the egr clean you were golden.
Plenty of torque and decent response to tuning chips.
Only real areas of concern are the fuel filter gunking up and intercooler hose splitting, both easily covered by changing the filter on an annual service and replacing rubber hoses with silicone ones.
