MK2.5 WIPER PROBLEM

Featured Replies

My brother's 2008 focus Mk2.5. This week the wipers stopped working. A bit inconvenient bearing in mind weather.  Fuse (number 129) is OK. I can hear relay click from BCM for slow and fast speed. So next to check if power is at the wiper motor. The blk/orange (wiper park) wire shows voltage , the green/white slow speed and black/white high speed wires show no voltage.

So as a short term fix I have cut the green and white wire from the BCM. I have used a live supply to a new switch and connected that to the green/white wire to the wiper motor. That works. So at least he can use the car. Not ideal as it is a toggle switch next to the hrw switch and it is just slow slow speed wiper with no intermittent.

So from the point of view of fixing this properly:   sometime ago the car had other problems and to rule out BCM i took the BCM apart to see if the circuit board inside was water damaged. it was not. But I can't really remember what it was like inside. Are relays soldered directly to the circuit board?  are these boards known for having relays fail on them or for faulty solder (cracks) - like on the instrument cluster circuit boards.   has anyone else reading had problems inside the BCM and fixed it by eg soldering new relay in?

(ps I did use cable that is thicker then the green/white wire and I did solder all connections including to the switch and I did use a high amp switch, so whilst it sounds a bit of a bodge it's not as bad as twisting wires together etc.)
