key fob

Featured Replies

yesterday went over to barnet parked up got out of car went to lock the car pressed the button and nothing car woulndnt lock no sound nothing.i did notice that the temperature on the clocks was saying ---f wich was strange so i thought a fuse had gone so i get the fuse box down try the fob and it works ? is the key fob worked from the clocks or the fuse box ?

i was thinking the connections on the fuse box not contacting properly

any help apreciated as i have mobility issues and need the car to get about.

Immobiliser goes through the clocks but I don't think the locking does.  The RF receiver is in the roof console near the interior light.  I wonder if you've got a dodgy earth around the clocks and roof area but could be GEM related.

will have a look thanks

was anything else odd on the dash. on my brother's 2008 focus the temp showed dashes, the blue main beam light did not work, the indicator tell take lights did not work (the indicators outside did work) and the indicator clicking noise speaker did not work. This was down to a dodgy connector on the MS Canbus between the instrument cluster and the GEM/BCM (the big fuse box thing) under the glovebox.  fiddling with loads of connectors fixed it.

I do not know if central locking is on the MS Canbus. The more you look into how the electrics work on the Canbus the more scary it is trying to fix stuff. At the top of the Focus forum page there is some wiring diagrams for focus mk2.5, it's over 100 pages. (5th post down the list)

Im assuming you have tried another battery, but on the out of the box ideas front my car once lost key sync..

If the fob won't work but central locking works with the key:

(This needs to be done quickly, within about 6-10 secs at the most!)

1. Put key in ignition and turn to the first click.

2. Turn up to second click, and back again. Do this 4 times until you hear a beep.

3. Press and hold one of the buttons on fob and you should hear another beep.

Bonus; if you have two keys, at the point of holding a button do that on both keys and they'll both pair back up. (IIRC this needs to be done at the same time, but I can't remember if you can do one and then move quickly to the other as well or not, but it doesnt harm to try again).

After you've done this and heard the last beep, turn off, key out and give it a mo. Try the fob again and it should be working if it lost binding with the car for some reason.
