Boot unlock problem on Focus Mk2.5

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, firstly, I have a 1.6 zetec Mk 2.5 2010, I don't know if this makes sense, but on the remote key fob, when i pressed the top button to unlock the car, I am convinced that this would release the boot as well and i could open it after with the boot catch handle, a few days ago, my key wouldn't open doors from remote, so I replaced the battery, reprogrammed it using the turn 4 times in 6 seconds in ignition and press any button and done, it opens the doors now, but the boot only opens if i press the bottom button specifically to open the boot, and when I close the boot after, it locks right away and to open it again I have to press key fob unlock boot again, any thoughts on this? very frustrating.

I think your memory is playing tricks with you. The door unlock button has never unlatched the boot, it does unlock it in the sense that it enables the button in the boot handle to unlatch it.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself clearly, once i unlock the doors and go round to the boot, it wont open unless i press the boot unlock button and then use the boot latch to open it, then when it is closed, it wont open again with the boot handle, I have to re-press the boot unlock button, hope that makes more sense.

I didn't think there was a reset procedure when replacing the remote battery on these cars. You could try taking the new battery out and putting it back in again without reprogramming to see if that makes any difference.

Probably wasn't necessary for a battery replacement, but i replaced the battery after the remote stopped working and it still didn't work after i changed the battery, so i went through the programming procedure and it worked again, but had this problem with the boot

I don't know where you got that procedure from.

Maybe that sequence enables door unlocking only, I don't know, just a thought.

The one 4 times/6 secs thing is to rebind keys when they lose sync with the car, usually the key still works for PATS but the remote unlock is goosed.

I'm pretty sure there is a key sequence that can be done on the older models for enabling just doors only, but for the life of me I can't remember that easter egg I'm afraid.

I'm sure someone with a bit of Google-Fu and more internet access than me can have a look and see.

The only thing I could find was that if you hold the lock and unlock buttons down at the same time until the Indicators flash then the fob is programmed so that only the drivers door unlocks.

I read that in the focus manual, there are two ways you can program it as you said, that only opens the driver's side and then you hold it again and it opens all of them, don't know if this is it.

You could try enabling this setting then disabling it again by doing the same thing to see if that kick starts things.

The lock + unlock rings a bell, from memory holding lock down and then pressing and holding unlock just after gave  a flash after a good few seconds, 8-10 or so maybe. It may be possible that it does indeed need a set/reset and doing that twice might help sort it out. Fingers crossed!
