Interior fan/steering interaction

Featured Replies

Have got an annoying heater blower noise on my '07 Focus. When get a chance am going to check/change the cabin filter to check if anything stuck there (seems straightforward enough), otherwise am down the route of the motor bearings perhaps (something of a pain to get out seemingly). Anyway, one thing I have noticed is that if is making its noise, it often stops for a bit when I turn the steering wheel. Any thoughts on why turning the wheel would shut up the noise..?

Bit of a longshot. I don't know if you have electric power steering pump or belt driven pump (depends on which engine you have). If electric, I am wondering if turning steering creates an electrical load from the pump which causes slight variation in voltage which causes slight variation in fan speed. I can't think of anything else.

Thanks. Is a 1.8 Diesel, but not sure on the steering pump. A voltage variation does sound like a logical explanation though. Just to try and shut it up now!

I believe 1.8 diesel does have electric power steering pump underneath the drivers side headlamp. Hydraulic power steering rack with hydraulic fluid pumped from the electric pump.
