Tyres needed for mk3

Featured Replies

Hi

I need 4 new tyres on my MK3 Focus. What do you recommend?

I'm looking at what tyresonthedrive have to offer as I've used them before and they've been OK.

I'm looking at the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance tyres at £106 each.

They sound quite well reviewed. What do you think?

Have put Michelin Pilot sport on my Mk3.

Very happy, reduction in road noise from factory fitted tyres.

What size tyres are they?  I've had those Goodyears in 205/55/16 for about £50 each and found them pretty good for the price, but they did noticeably lose grip in colder temps.  Don't think I'd pay £100+ for them unless that's for 18s?

i cant suggest tyre makes/models but I would always check prices against tyreshopper, black circles and asdatyres to make sure you are not overpaying

Yeah that size, the cheapest I can find them at is around £100. You sure it's the same tyre?

I have landsail tyres fitted on my 18s from my local tyre fitter They are a budget tyre at £75 each but I've not had any problems with them. Not noisier than previous tyres, wear OK and grip is fine in wet conditions too.

What did you have on from the factory? I have Michelin Primacy HP. They are extremely noisy. Hoping a change of tyres in the new year will help.

Think they were the same on mine.

Thanks - that gives me some hope. I was beginning to think it was a soundproofing issue. However, on some (short) smooth stretches on the M1, the car is absolutely silent - pure bliss. So i'm guessing it must be the tyres.

Ah, yours are 215, not 205, that does make them more expensive unfortunately as it's a less common size.  You can get them fully fitted from F1 Autocentres for £91 though.  They usually have voucher codes to knock a few more pounds off.  I wouldn't want to spend more than £75 on 16s personally.

And yeah it was definitely those.  I also had the previous EfficientGrip (non Performance) which were utterly horrendous in the wet, the performance model are much better, just not great in the cold imo.
