2.0 TDCI smoking bad

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm new here and drive a 2009 2.0 TDCI Focus, and what with coming from a BMW M3, I know nothing about diesels.

So I have had this car for 9 months, it was fine, and now it smokes terribly.

I had it remapped, probably too high to 195 bhp and a lot more torque.

It went in fine before the remap and came out like a totally different car. It would wheelspin in 2nd. Great fun.

Anyway, in the past month it has started smoking and lost power.

Stationary and revved it doesn't make any noticeable smoke. It idles fine.

There used to be a noticeable turbo whine at 2k RPM, this has gone.

It only smokes bad when my foot is half way down or more on the pedal when the turbo is spooling up or running.

5th gear is gutless, it has very little acceleration, 6th gear is now useless.

No engine management lights showing.

Any ideas on what I can replace to make it run good again?

Also, anybody got a Zetec S alloy for sale? hit a pot hole and it's not round anymore.

Remapped too fiercely and you've fecked the turbo.

Check the boost pipes for a possible split. Check carefully 'cos the rubber pipes have a mesh liner which tends to close up the split in the outer rubber until boost pressure forces it open. I'm thinking the smoke is black...?

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

It turned out the inlet pipe between the intercooler and the inlet manifold had split.

I've replaced it and it goes great again!

Thanks!
