axle stand location

Featured Replies

quick question (and yes i have used the search function)

i’m wanting to jack up the rear wheels and put the axle stands in till i change the discs and pads, i’ve used these pics as a guide as to where they should be placed

my problem is that i have a plastic cover attached to where the axle points are that stretches to the rear of the car so i don’t want to lower the car onto the stands and in turn break the plastic cover, is there another point that i can put the stands or is this the best place for them?

thanks in advance

they should be fine were you have them but I would choc the front wheels as well👍

If you've got ramps, drive onto them, then go underneath and detach the plastic undertray. Don't be tempted to get underneath while it's jacked up tho!

i should say those pics aren’t mine just ones i’ve found on here and google, if i put the stands where they are in that pic it’s gonna break the plastic cover that’s underneath there and i’d rather avoid doing that completely

cant you remove the plastic covers first

i’ll have a look tomorrow but it looked more like it was riveted on than screwed or bolted on, was scared to try remove it incase it was more hassle than anything else

Yeah, I'd already figured out it wasn't your car in the pic.

However it's fixed on it'll be removable, if you're not sure, post pics of the type of fasteners used and we'll try to advise.

Alternatively,  Jack it up on the cill and try to position your axle stands as close as poss to the jack point... however it's best to use rubber pads between the jack/stand and the cill to avoid damage to the bodywork.
