Parking guide lines on OEM reverse camera

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a 2102 Focus MK3 with the factory fitted reverse camera. On my original 5" screen I used to have the parking guide lines (the ones that curve as you steer in to the space) so you can work out the angle you need to reverse in at.

Since upgrading the system to Sync 3, although the reverse camera is working, it doesn't show these curved guide lines, only the proximity blocks that go yellow/red as you get closer to an object.

Anyone know how to activate this via Forscan or is it not possible on Sync 3?

Thanks

James

On the Focus MK3 with rear view camera the parking lines overlay is generated by the rear view camera module (IPMB). The IPMB communicates the overlay to the FCDIM which projects the overlay onto the camera image.

On the very late Focus MK3 and all MK3.5 with rear view camera the parking lines overlay is generated by the BCM. The BCM communicates the overlay to the FCDIM which projects the overlay onto the camera image.

The problem is that both the SYNC 2 and SYNC 3 systems do not have the ability to communicate with the old IPMB. If you want to use the original rear view camera you have to replace the BCM for a MK3.5 version that supports the rear view camera. In most cases the MK3 rear view camera is also not suitible to communicate with the MK3.5 BCM and also needs to be replaced.

A much cheaper solution is to remove the old MK3 rear view camera and install a decent aftermarket rear view camera with integrated (fixed) parking lines.

Or, you could swivel your head round and have a look LOL 🤣

Yeah, fair point 😂

Sounds like it's not really worth it, I can live without. The OEM camera still works as do the parking sensors on screen.

Cheers!

@JW1982 would you have any advice for me?
Ive got a 2018 ford titanium 1.0 petrol ecoboost. I installed a OEM genuine reversing camera and activated it using Fourscan. It’s connected to the grey plug by the reversing lights. When I put the car into reverse, the screen goes black then a blue screen appears with the message “Camera Unavailable”.

any suggestions gratefully received!
