Ford Focus Ecoboost 2012

Featured Replies

Hi Peeps,

New on here, but not new anywhere else - I have several Fords but the current Focus Ecoboost 1.0ltr 2012 which is mainly driven by my eldest daughter is a bit sick and I need a bit of confirmation on some points if possible.

The car was bought brand new and has covered 37,000 miles - last week she complained that the boost had gone, this was the turbo with the impeller nut had somehow come off and the whole impeller was rattling around -  new turbo fitted by myself in approx 3 1/2 hours - all good, boost back.

On Saturday she was driving it when the oil light came on and the car sounded like a tractor ( her words) she immediately stopped and I was called out to assist - the oil level was a little down but not more than cupful of oil and the engine sounded like there was oil starvation and very metallic.

Got car home, dropped oil out, nothing abnormal, nothing in the oil. Changed oil and filter started back up, oil light flickered on and off and then went on and again the metallic sound of oil starvation.

Dropped the oil back out and this time small metal deposits in oil - Not happy. :-(

I have spoken to a local garage - non Ford - and they have told me that the engine is so fragile it is better to have a short block motor put in!

I have also been informed that to take the engine apart will take approx 10 hours and special tools are needed which most private garages don't have.

I realise its Christmas and most garages are not open so I have not had too many answers as yet, but it seems the cheapest option is to get a 2nd hand engine (approx £1000) and swap it over.

Question is could it simply be the oil pump or is it something more vital - bearing etc. It does not get driven hard but it does have many short journeys as it's used as a kids mobile and shopping cart.

Next question is who do you trust to do any work on your Fords these days, as it seems even the Ford main dealers are getting bad names for poor overpriced work? I live in Nottingham.

Any helpful comments would be gratefully received .

Rich.

Does sound like oil pump, might be worth having a read of this thread as someone with a Fiesta ecoboost had a similar problem, it turned out to be the pick up pipe mesh being blocked.

Oil starvation has caused your turbo to fail. I would deffo get a local garage to remove sump and check for blocked strainer. Then if it is blocked , get it washed clean and refit . New oil and filter and try that. Alot cheaper than going straight to engine swap.
