Fitting Clock pod to Kuga mk1

Featured Replies

Hi, i want to fit the 3 clock pod from a Focus 2.5in the centre of the dash to my mk1 kuga 2.5petrol which has the HYDB engine and Bosch ecu . Anyone done this or have knowledge? Im guessing the turbo boost and oil pressure are sent electronically from ecu to pod , some hope but does anyone know if the connector at the ecu end would have the wiring connected already on a harness or could i get one from a breaker to swap out and make up some kind of donkeys walloper ( for that read wiring adaptation ) ! Thanks . Paul.

The Focus MK2/MK2.5 ST/RS gaugepod is CANbus controlled. The gauge position data is calculated by the PCM and communicated over the CANbus network to the gauge pod.

The ST/RS gaugepod will only work if both the PCM hardware and software support this. If not the data that is needed for the gauges to work is simply not available on the CANbus network. On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 the ST/RS are the only engine types that supports this.

The Duratec 2.5T engine in the Kuga MK1 may be very similar to the Focus ST engine but there are also differences. As far as I know the PCM hardware is identical but the PCM software is definetely different. There is a chance that the Kuga software does not communicate the data that is needed for the gauges to work.

Thanks for the reply, I understand fully what that means in that id better not physically butcher my dash to fit the pod until i have maybe slaved out the wiring to see what response the gauges give once ive done the connecting of the pod, unless Im prepared to have the gauges sitting there as a potential ornament !

As a test the gauge pod can temporaily be connected to the DLC (diagnostic) connector. By connecting the 12V positive, Ground and CANbus wires the functionality of the gauge pod can easily be checked.

Thanks for that, would you happen to know off hand what pin on the obd the specific bus used is terminated to that the data is sent ? Regards.
