FOCUS Mk4 2018 Adaptive headlights

Featured Replies

Adaptive headlight issue

-Had both headlamp units replaced due to flickering daytime running lights.

-Since replacement, daytime running lights now dim intermittently with selection of indicator.

-When driving at night, the adaptive headlights do not perform like they should. It seems that they get locked into one position, which sometimes causes black spots ahead, thus not lighting up the road. For example, during motorway driving, the headlights are dipped so low, that about 3 metres or so in-front of car, there is a dark square, as though it is detecting a car ahead. It then stays like this for the remainder of journey, even if a change in driving environment, such as lighted village, or approaching a roundabout, whereby the lights should change to illuminate the approach to roundabout. Also a feature whereby it lights up street signs below 31mph, does not work. (Camera Detects Traffic Signs)

The lights should adapt the direction, breadth and intensity to suit conditions.

-Part numbers prior to replacement

JX7B-13E016-DD

JX7B-13E017-DD

However since replacement, there is a mix of part numbers. Now I have

JX7B-13E016-DD

JX7B-13E017-DF

So near side has a unit which has a different part number to the pervious part? Would this cause any issues?

When the vehicle was hooked to the computer for fault rectification at the ford dealer, it was discovered that there was a fault with the “headlight control module”. Does this form part of the headlight unit, or is this a separate part?

I would recommend that you ask the dealer to check and update the software in all of the modules that control the adaptive headlamps as it looks like a software issue to me.

I believe the adaptive LED lights are controlled by a combination of the Headlamp Module, Body Control Module, Power Steering Module, Camera/Radar Module,  and (I Think) the ABS module

the 16 in the part number means RH and the 17 means left hand.

The next letter shows the derivative of the part number (all Ford headlamps on all cars will be 13E016/7) so, as they are Ds they are the correct spec

The JX7B means they are for a MK4 FOCUS (X7B meaning MK4 Focus, "J" meaning 2018 model year)

The next letter is the engineering level of the part so the "F" is a more modified version than the "D" but as the car was originally fitted with "Ds" that shouldn't be a problem.
