Jacking Point Collapsed/Bent Question

Featured Replies

I mentioned this in my other thread but looking for opinions.

I noticed shortly after getting the car the front jacking point has been bent, like right over and rusting a bit now, but a couple of days ago I noticed the passenger side is the same.

Before xmas I got a quote to sort out the driver side jacking point and a bit of rust in that area, was quoted £250 but now with the other side the price is almost £500, I just don't know if its worth doing. Can you still jack on the bend over jacking points? Its hardly up and down every day, just enough to change the tyre or get it high enough to get some jack stands underneath.

Just trying to see if its worth paying out that type of money!

Also been quoted £150 for undersealing the car,  they said they use a 2 pack 3M product but didn't say which one, I do have a fair bit of rust that needs cleaning off, but I have heard mixed results about undersealing.

If the metal looks solid..... Hit the bent bit with a heavy hammer gently until it's straight again.

Sounds like someone has jacked up your car and not used anything to support the joint, common error at many tyre garages and if they spot they've bent it, they'll say nothing.

Undersealing doesn't really stop corrosion, it only covers it making it look good, eventually the underseal swells with water ingress caused by the rust, a bit of grafting with a decent scraper & wire brushes to remove all the rust is needed, then a liberal coating of thick oil will stop further rust.

Our 10 plate Fiesta is rust free on the underside, this is because I oil everywhere and twice a year it gets blasted with WD40.

There is a pic in one of my other threads, its strange, looks rusted to death but its actually pretty solid underneath.

The undersealing the chap said they wire brush the underside of the car then apply the 3M stuff.

The thing is with pictures and a flash it looks awful but on closer inspection the metal is actually solid, never had any issues with mot's, last one being 3 months ago, I think I just want any rust there tidied and some type of coating.

I won't get a hammer in there unfortunately, it is bent up like flat! I had to jack the car the other day so used the "flat" part it was fine but not sure if that is going to be suitable for jacking in the future or if it will break.
