Rear tailgate replacement strut query...

Featured Replies

Mine are the originals but after 15 years, they are a little tired needing a good shove to open to the full extent. Ebay replacements seem very cheap 100s of  listings all less than £15, but came across these 'spring' assisted ones at £54 - anyone ever fitted them?

Ohhh they look good, ever since I saw a Mercedes boot opening on its own about 10 years ago I've always fancied the same, if you do fit Steve let me known how they perform. They are a bit pricey though 😩

Oh wow! I so want something like that for our Fiesta!

Well, if you get some, will you let us know how you get on? LOL £40 more than standard just for a spring just seems an awful lot...

I'd get me Son to buy them Stephen! He's a sucker for impressive things, just fitted the gas strut to his 14plate Fiesta bonnet....Got to say...''I'm Well Impressed With It''

Asked that seller if they'll ever make the struts for the Fiesta.

I too once spent £80 on bonnet struts for my Celica, but times have changed. £54 is big bucks to me now! 😢

Thought I was onto a winner until I watched the last bit in this clip!

Yep, home made definitely doesn't look the way to go LOL

They're having a laugh.
Pay good money for poxy springs that only work 2 in 3 tries and are likely to smack you in the mush if not careful?
Junk.

The 'junk' ones are home made in that YouTube video, not the pukka ones that I described in my 1st post that you can buy from Ebay LOL

Looks like he just used some spare valve springs.

Well, 3 x -ve reviews amongst 200, not bad odds!

Unsure if this helps but I'm a member of a few FB groups, theres a chap on there who sells the springs themselves from Canada and has a couple of videos up. Definitely better on a Focus than a Fiesta, it's potentially worth asking him if you have any queries etc. Quoted me 45 shipped for two sets for myself and a friend which I didn't think TOO bad overall, more so when compared to prices for normal ones with springs anyway?

Might be a cheaper route!

Thanks for that Sam, but that link takes you to FB which I am not a member, and would rather poke my eyes out rather than sign up with that insidious company! LOL

Hah, I must admit the same - I am however forced to have a membership for work and other contact purposes which erks me greatly.. 🙄

This boot opening looks nice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAfBtQscnzU

Except he didn't says which springs he used exactly. Maybe 20mm x 40mm. Some say 50 mm is too long.

The other one says: Int :10mm Ext: 19mm Length: 45mm. Just to find it.
