Snapped clutch on ST-Line X

Featured Replies

had a 19 plate focus st line x since July, done about 5200 miles and the clutch has snapped. i have had it towed to peoples who have already said they probably wont cover it and i will have to pay for it myself (around £800). This is obviously a massive shock as it hasn't done many miles so its a big doubt for wear and tear.

i overheard them talking about faulty clutches on the 18/19 fiesta st lines so i would assume they are similar?

what would other people do in my situation, its booked in for Monday!

Not sure quite what you mean by clutch "snapped" but I'd certainly expect it sorted under warranty at 6 months/5,000 unless they can prove its down to misuse.

I've had 2 cars in the past (non-Ford admittedly) which have had failed clutches replaced without quibble at that sort of age.

Suggest you escalate to service manager/dealer principal or Ford customer services if no joy.

Considering your car is almost new and only covered 5200 miles i support your sentiment  that it falls well below a dealers right to reject a claim on reasonable wear and tear grounds regardless of if there is any hidden small print in the warranty 👍

I'd ring Ford directly.  Peoples are taking the ***** if they try and say a 6 month old 5200 miles failure is normal wear and tear.

Assuming you have not modified anything, then I can't see how it can be your fault. I don't know quite what you mean by snapped but I assume you mean something suddenly broke as opposed to it being burnt out / slipping from abuse.  Bearing in mind a ST is a performance car and marketed that way you would expect Ford to make it so it can withstand a hard life, otherwise it's not fit for purpose. Keep us informed, not just how the warranty goes but on exactly what went wrong with it.

Even wear and tear is covered until the car's first service.

and that can be up to 2 years on a petrol Mk4 Focus.
