Ford Focus Duratec running rough

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone please help me with my Ford Focus Mk2 Duratec HE engine. 2007. 1800. flexi fuel. (I always use petrol because the economy is better.)

Driving back the other day about 70km/h on a long run it started juddering at speed. I had to ´pump´ the pedal to keep it going or else it would judder to a stop. It seems to have two settings with any power; at the first movement of the pedal going down and at full throttle- just nothing in between. Its quite tiring and dangerous round town. It stalls all the time.

I had not just filled up. It was wet cold weather but the engine bay usually stays nice and dry.

I got some dash fault lights after a while, not right away. ESP system fault. Juddering. Then after an hour of this juddering I got an airbag light and a yellow engine light. I managed to get home but only just.

I checked the plugs, packs and cleaned the MAF sensor the other day, also blew in carb cleaner through the manifold - blew out a load of crap. Cleaned the carb flap and injectors. All looked ok. I ran petrol additive through it. I did a good vacuum hose check including the one under the manifold and that seems to be ok. I did all the earths again.

No change, maybe worse.

I got these codes, they must be related. All of these arriving at once sounds like and electric problem. I did the ESP unit last year so its probably ok, it just comes on with a judder.

Please help its driving me mad and we need this car. BTW I love Fords.

Check the connector that plugs into the throttle body on the engine. Unplug the connector and spray both parts with wd40 and plug it back in. These connectors can get dirty contacts and cause judder problems. Kevin
