New android stereo recommendation

Featured Replies

Hi all

So I bought my first ever Ford Focus yesterday and so far seem a decent car. It’s a 2011 titanium new shape.

the only thing I want to change is the stereo which is the old Sony unit.

I was thinking of getting a China Jobie, like a 10.4 android unit any recommendations would be appreciated.

also is it possible to replace my current stereo with a sync2 or sync3 unit.

thanks all

I replaced the factory head unit in my MK2 Focus with an Android 8 unit from xtrons.co.uk and I've not had any reliability issues in the 18 months or so that it's been installed.  They do offer some MK3 Focus specific models (the come with the replacement centre console plastics), bear in mind that hardware specs really matter when it comes to performance.

You wouldn't knowingly buy an Android phone that only had 1GB of RAM so you really need to be looking at 2GB RAM minimum so you can multitask relatively smoothly i.e. DAB/music player and sat nav app running at the same time etc.  If you choose a car specific model rather than generic "double din" size, the unit will come supplied with any required fascia adapters and a canbus decoder so your steering wheel controls should still work.

The only current model they offer for the MK3 Focus is Xtrons PST90FSF and as is common with most of their head units, if you was DAB you also need to purchase one of the DAB+ dongles such as the Xtrons USBDAB01 that I've been using without issue.
