Ford Focus MK2 2005 - timing belt replacement advice

Featured Replies

Hi there.

I've got a 2005 Ford Focus 1.6 LX Auto with 34k on the clock.  Despite the low mileage, given its age, it's well (!) overdue for a timing belt change.

I'm just looking for any recommendations for where to get this done in London and what anticipated cost might be  (My nearest official Ford dealership is TrustFord Edgware).  Price is less important than the job being done properly, as the car has always driven like a dream, is in great condition, and I'm planning to hold onto it for as long as possible.  (Thinking belt, tensioner, water pump replacement - not sure about related engine seals at the same time)

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks

Mike

I was watching a video recently on youtube (bodgit and leggit) comparing some timing belts, one with high mileage was in pretty good shape but another with relatively low mileage but older in age was showing cracks.  Just goes to show that regardless of which criteria your belt meets first, getting it changed is important.

Yep replace the lot and the drive belt if that's not been done.

Can't recommend garages but you'll be paying a premium at Ford so worth shopping round to find a decent independent.  🙂

Thanks very much!  Just to let you know, I found an independent and got everything done 🙂 The old timing belt looked fine, but they're tricky customers these belts and better safe than sorry!  Thanks again for the reply 🙂
