Ford Focus Mk2 (2005) automatic engine stalling problem

Featured Replies

I’ve owned a 2005 Ford Focus for a couple years now. For the last couple month the engine stalls even tho it’s an automatic engine.

When it first started it only used to happen when the engine was at operating temperature. But now it happens at any time. For example, I was pulling out of a parking spot and it stalled.

The power of the car has significantly decreased and takes a lot more rpm to get the car moving. The mpg is like 5 which is horrendous. No engine management lights are showing. I’ve used a scanner but I cannot find a problem.

Has the fuel filter been changed?

Has the Air filter been changed?

Check if the MAF sensor is faulty, disconnect the plug and see if that cures the problem

Failing that, make sure spark plugs are good, HT leads are good and coil pack is OK

Also, ensure there is enough or not too much fluid in the gearbox
