Focus ST Diesel - Randomly losing power

Featured Replies

Have a strange one going on with my car at the moment. Earliest garage can look at it is next Friday and it’s still drivable so not overly fussed so wondered if anyone can offer any assistance in the meantime.

Past 2-3 weeks while driving along the engine would seem to stutter losing all power, flagging a message on the dash saying “engine service now”, regaining power after 5 or so seconds and then after 30 seconds the warning would disappear. Sometimes this would happen multiple times per journey every 5 or so minutes. It can happen with cruise set so doing a constant speed however is happening more often when under acceleration. It went in for its major service last week and had fuel filter, oil filter and the other stuff done. I mention this as Ford Assist came out thinking it would be a potential issue with the fuel filter however since this has been going on before and after the new fuel filter was fitted this doesn’t seem to be the problem.

I’ve read the DTCs myself as well as Ford Assist and three are being flagged, P08B0, P086D and P06A6. P06A6 from my research seems to be flagging due to P08B0 and P086D appearing. Those two appear to be to do with the neutral position switch (it is a manual gearbox). Has anyone ever had anything similar happen to their cars, or even does anyone with a bit more know how than myself know if those codes are even related to the lack of power?

The lack of power is that most probably the engine enters limp mode due to a malfunction. You need to check out those sensors and the reasons behind the limp mode triggering.
