Winds me right up when I see standard plates which has been altered! eg big gaps between the letters & numbers or grouping most & leaving the last letter with a big gap, these plates are illegal but most MOT garages turn a blind eye to such things, a while back there was a traffic cop car parked up in a carpark and in front of them was a car with such an altered plate, just had to ask the coppers their thoughts on the said plate, one remarked ''whilst we don't like them I wouldn't book the driver just for altered plates as I've far more important things to do than sit down for three hours to make a report about dodgy lettered plates''

If a reg plate is private & fully legal, then go for it.

I wouldn't personally get a private reg but equally I wouldn't buy a car if I didn't like reg. Ie. Seen one the other week something like CUxx xNT. I can't actually mind the number or other letter but the outer 2 letters either end caught my attention.

I have to agree with you on the name front, I would never get a plate with 'jon' on it for example.

That's a shame, 3 letter names are ideal for plates, if you'd been John it wouldn't work!  I've started to like TOM plates over the last year or so...possibly part of my midlife crisis though!

I couldn't believe CU could be a regional identifier...far too much scope for fun with that.  But apparently it is!  It's also Swansea so presumably lots of DVLA workers have CU...plates!

There’s been a big crackdown on illegal plates on motorbikes in the last year. Certainly in Scotland at least. MOT testers now failing bikes with small plates, small lettering, incorrect spacing etc.

Heard of a few people getting fines last summer as well

I've seen plates on motorbikes as small as a matchbox! Honest I have ? Even some plates not readable by angled inwards towards the base of the seat, so can't be read looking straight on.

Thought about it and decided to look what was available that I might like. Decided to have one to match the coming car: ST Line X so searched for:
ST20 LNX
Gone. LOL
That plate won't have been released yet

Pulled one a while ago where the plate was tiny and the plastic was no thicker than a bank card.
