Headlight control panel

Featured Replies

I have 2016 Titanium Navigator and the mount/trim/surround for the headlight control panel has just sort of snapped off. The controls themselves are fine, but dangling on a wire.

I'm not sure what the part is called that I need to search for to replace. Plenty of results come up for the controls themselves, but nothing for the plastic trim.

Any ideas?

Easy enough job for me to fix/replace myself?

Thanks

The trims aren't available separately.  They're part of the vent if you buy direct from Ford.

The best thing to do is buy a used light switch with the trim still attached such as below.  You can then dismantle your vent (lots of plastic clips to pop out) and replace the lower section.

Thanks @TomsFocus

My broken trim seems to be missing anyway to attach it to the car. Is that supposed to click in, or is it glued in some way?

It just clicks in, there should be lots of little plastic tabs (probably a better description than clips) around the edge.

Here's a link to when I replaced mine with a few pictures if it helps:

Thank you.

It is the bottom part that has come away. I guess there's no way to just click it back into place? It looks as though any tabs that would hold it have snapped off

Could you post a picture?  I can't really see it just falling out unless the clips were broken though.

I've found the clips in the little drawer/cupboard thing to the right of the steering wheel.

It looks like it's been hanging on for dear life since before we bought it a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not sure what to do about that. We bought it from a dealer who promised they'd fully inspected and serviced the vehicle before purchase, and while this isn't a major problem, the slow puncture and very close to being bald tires that I've already had to replace, are.

I got my replacement headlight switch today, but stupid me ordered the wrong one! My Focus has an auto light switch, the one I ordered doesn't.

Anyway, while I'm waiting for the new one to arrive I thought I'd see if it was obvious how to swap these over and I'm stuck. Replacement, and the one I've got my eye on on eBay, come with the trim and this little vent hole thing on the top (see picture), but I can't see/find any way to unclip that from the dash on the old one

Do I need to replace the entire vent? I see some that are for sale have the top vent attached too

It doesn't matter which switch you have, the switches just push out of the trim so can be easily swapped.

You need to remove the whole vent in order to disassemble it and swap the lower part with the new one.  If you check the thread I linked in an earlier post it shows the process.
