Focus stolen catalyst.

Featured Replies

I would seem that it is fairly common these days for some cars and hybrids to have their catalysts stolen.

Cut off in a matter of minutes, in many cases, from cars parked at home.

Stolen because the precious metals inside are becoming more precious by the day.

See here.

There is no mention of Ford Focuses and I was wondering if we were being passed over or perhaps Focuses were just not getting a mention.

Anyone here had any problems like this?

"Thieves make between £300 and £500 for every converter stolen". Well I'm missing out on a good business idea then since there are dozens for sale for my ST that all cost less than £70.

Good luck stealing my cat, it's currently wrapped up in bubble-wrap in the attic 😂.

It's just another click-bait article from the tabloids. Must be a slow news day.

I had an e46 coupe cat and it was worth alot and a passat tdi one that was worth ***** all, price depends on the car and engine etc.

Also depends if the cat is original or not...  Originals are worth good money, pattern parts are worth a fiver if you're lucky!

Prius ones seem to be very valuable and easily stolen due to the location (right underneath with straight pipe either side) and probably ride height as well.

Slam your Focus on budget coilovers and they won't even get the jack under.

If you have a bus stop or corner shop near you I'd print a picture of the cat and say "Missing Cat" last saw during annual service, missing since Sunday morning when my vehicle sounded like a bag of Ferrell's

You're right. Some years ago I took a selection of failed catalysts from my ageing Mondeo into my local scrappie.

He checked every part number and only paid sensible money on the Ford original part.

I take it then that the silence here on the subject of Focuses having their cats nicked means that we are all relatively safe.

I do wonder why there's such a price difference...

Either the pattern parts simply aren't doing thier job...or the large quantity of platinum in genuine cats is completely unnecessary...

The pattern parts, as you say, do indeed have the absolute minimum of precious metal.

The reason I had a good selection of cats to scrap was that they were cheap compared with the Ford part and just crept in below the MOT limits before failing on the third test.

I had the Mondeo from new and scrapped it myself with 250,000 miles on the clock I did all the maintenance myself except the last cat change. After I purchased the cat on the internet, then I broke a bone in my hand. The local exhaust place fitted it for me at a very reasonable price.

I was anticipating them saying that if I hadn't bought it through them then they would not do just the fitting. Perhaps the bandages got me the sympathy vote!

By the way, the original Ford cat failed on emissions not because of the precious metals but that the bricks inside came loose letting the exhaust gasses bypass the cat bricks and escape untreated straight through.
