Reverse camera upgrade for ancient Mk2!

Featured Replies

I’ve always envied you guys with your fancy reversing cameras, and always though one would be out of reach for me on my 15 year old Mk2. I’ve had a Garmin SatNav fitted on my cars for nearly 20 years, but only very recently was I made aware in the ‘app’ section, there was a ‘reverse camera’ option. On research, I discovered that Garmin did a specific ‘wireless’ camera that would connect to the SatNav.

It took me almost 2 months to track down a ‘used’ one off Ebay  (New they are about £150!) However, recently, I found a listing for a used one and my offer of £55 was accepted. On receipt, it wasn’t used at all. All the components were brand new, and the instructions were still factory sealed and the wiring was brand new too.

Despite being easy to fit, I got a man to do it, I’m past all that kind of stuff  though 40 years ago wiring up a full set of Cibies was a typical weekend  LOL  It consists of the camera mounted on the tailgate, and being connected to the  wireless transmitter, which is powered by the reversing light. I did fabricate a custom camera bracket which allowed it to be fitted more flush to the car body just for neatness.

Anyway, now, when reverse is selected, the camera wireless transmitter is activated, and the view is thrown onto the SatNav screen, just perfect.  I add alot of crap to my car, but this is a really useful addition!

So, for those who don’t have reverse camera factory fitted, and use a Garmin SatNav, I can highly recommend the BC30 accessory...
