Alarm and bonnet warning

Featured Replies

Hi

For the past couple of weeks my alarm has been randomly going off every other evening/night when nobody is anywhere near the car. When I drive the car, occasionally I get a message saying bonnet open for a couple of seconds then it goes off. From my Google search it seems these two problems are connected.

My focus is a mk3.5 2015 model - zetec.

Could anyone help me with where the sensor is located to try and solve myself?

How much would I be looking at at a Ford dealer to have this resolved?

Thanks for your help.

If it's anything like other Fords it's all part of the latch mechanism.

My Dad's Fiesta had the same issue, but it was under warranty at the time and they replaced the whole latch.

You could try disconnecting and reconnecting the plug going to it, and see if that helps, but afaik the sensor isn't a module attatched to the latch, it's all one thing.

I've cleaned the connection and its just getting worse

Anyone any idea how much a new latch is? Cant afford to spend loads but I'm not technically minded enough to start fiddling with it myself.

Can I just disconnect positive battery terminal for a while until I get it fixed?

Are the fuses secure in the passenger footwell? Mine were disturbed when checking pollen filter, all sorts of alerts appeared. Easy fix if this is the case.

You might be able to temporarily bypass the sensor by disconnecting the cable and bridging the contacts with a suitable piece of solid wire. Just make sure you insulate it and tie it securely to one side.
