Ford Focus Mk 2 1.6TDCi Fuel Leak Off Test Advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have noticed some carbon build up around my fuel injectors and have decided it is time to perform a ‘Leak-Off Test’. The car has covered just over 133,000 miles so I thought this might be a good time.

I plan on following the instructions on this website: https://www.fordwiki.co.uk/index.php/Injector_Leak-Off_Test# to perform the test.

I just want to check that I am putting the tubes on the correct nozzles. I have attached a picture with green arrows indicating where the tubes feeding to the measuring bottles would go and red arrows indicating where I need to seal the end of the tubes to stop dust etc. getting in.

Also, do I need to bleed the system (marked with the blue arrow) after I have finished the test?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Stophen.

Carbon deposits around the base are caused by injector seal leaks, a leak off test shows the amount of wear inside the injector, they aren't really linked except for both being more common as time goes on.

You have got the correct pipes though, just pull out those little butterfly clips and the pipes should pull off.  There is a little o-ring inside each one though so try not to damage that.

There's no need to bleed the system afterwards.

Thanks @TomsFocus,

I was planning on changing all the injector seals anyway but I just want to check that I don't need to replace or refurbish the injectors at the same time, hopefully the results will be ok!

Oh, just to clarify I remove the plastic fitting that is secured by the butterfly clip and run the tubing directly into that (marked with a BIG red arrow).

Cheers, Stophen
